What’s Coming Up…Cold Cases and/or Botched Cases

First let me put this out there. If there’s anyone out there with writing skills and a desire to help give exposure to cases that have gone cold, contact me (Norm.Holliston@gmail.com). Every day I get letters from people asking to look into their loved ones’ cases. I only wish I had the time to do them all. But I’d be happy to take on new writers who are willing to do this unpaid but very fulfilling job. Send me a writing sample about why you want to do this and I’ll get back to you. Now on to the current cases to be covered in the coming days and weeks.

Joe Helt shortly before he disappeared in 1987

Joe Helt: He was 17 years old when he went to a party near Ellensville, New York. It was a party he never returned from. Many people think there’s 3 people who were with him at that party who know exactly what happened. One was the son of a local judge. It’s been 25 years and still no clue as to what happened to Joe.

Mary Ann Pryor: Mary Ann was also 17 when she disappeared in 1974. Unfortunately, we do know what happened to her. From the North Bergen, New Jersey Prosecutor’s Office–On August 9, 1974, Mary Ann Pryor, age 17, of Second Avenue in North Bergen, NJ, planned on going to the Garden State Plaza Mall with her friend, Lorraine Marie Kelly, age 16, of 71st Street in North Bergen. At approximately 4:30 p.m., the two girls were dropped off at a Ridgefield, NJ, bus stop by Lorraine’s boyfriend. It was assumed that the girls would then take a bus to the mall. However, this was not confirmed and the girls, both students at North Bergen High School, were known to be regular hitchhikers. Mary Ann Pryor was last seen wearing bell bottom pants with patches and a halter top. She was also wearing a necklace with a gold cross. Neither girl returned home that evening.

On August 14, 1974, the bodies of Mary Ann Pryor and Lorraine Kelly were found lying in a wooded area behind Rolling Ridge Road in Montvale, NJ.

Lorraine Marie Kelly

Lorraine Kelly: Mary Ann’s best friend met with the same fate. Also from the North Bergen, NJ Prosecutor’s Office–On August 9, 1974, Lorraine Marie Kelly, age 16, of 71st Street in North Bergen, NJ, planned on going to the Garden State Plaza Mall with her friend, Mary Ann Pryor, age 17, of Second Avenue in North Bergen. Lorraine Marie Kelly was last seen wearing a white short sleeve shirt, brown corduroy pants, and tan clogs. She was also wearing a beaded bracelet and a necklace with the inscription, “Lorraine and Ricky.” Neither girl returned home that evening.

On August 14, 1974, the bodies of Lorraine Marie Kelly and Mary Ann Pryor were found lying in a wooded area behind Rolling Ridge Road in Montvale, NJ.

Erik Cross: Erik Stirling Cross was brutally murdered on June 26, 1983. No one has ever been arrested or charged with this murder. The murderer’s name is common knowledge in the small town of Vicksburg, Michigan, where this murder occurred. The murderer has made numerous confessions to third parties that he killed Erik. The police know about these confessions, yet still no arrest has been

made. Erik’s homicide case is an open Cold Case with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department.

Gail Nowacki Palmgren

Gail Palmgren: How often have we heard a case like this? Women seeks divorce from husband, vanishes, then found dead. There’s much more in the details such as the manner of her death. She disappeared in April 2011, the mother of 2 young children. Seven months later she and her jeep were found. From appearances, it looks like she drove or was forced over a cliff. The heavy foliage prevented her red jeep from being spotted until the winter. The case has been closed and ruled an accidental death. But there are many who believe this was anything but an accident.

  3. Thank you so much for picking up the Gail Palmgren case. I was praying you would.

I’ve been following the Nikki LaDue January case and I know Bonnie thinks so highly of you! I’m hoping that some of the regulars on her case, like LME will look at this one when he has time. The work you do is amazing! I appreciate all you do for those needing and seeking justice.

    Thank you!

  4. NORM …THANK YOU FOR REVISITING GAIL PALMGREN’S CASE AND SAYING WHAT SO MANY HAVE THOUGHT NOW FOR over 1 year ….GAIL WILL REST IN PEACE ONLY WHEN REAL JUSTICE IS SERVED !!!

  5. Hi Norm. FYI… that isn’t a picture of Erik Cross. The picture is of Jim Holbrook, one of the First responders to the scene. He also was a friend of Erik’s. There is a facebook page dedicated to solving this case. It’s listed under Erik Stirling Cross.
